The Kiwanis Club of Klang in conjunction with Kiwanis Malaysia is launching the KIWANIS WHITE FLAG COMMUNITY FUND in our Klang District in response to the human tragedy that is unfolding before our eyes every day.
We have created a payment portal specifically for this purpose and we are building on our experiences from our previous project the Covid-19 Safety Net appeal last year where we raised RM 50,000 for our community. This time the situation is much worse where families are literally giving up and flying the white flag in a desperate attempt to feed their families. Thousands have lost their sources of income as the lockdown tales its toll.
The KIWANIS WHITE FLAG COMMUNITY FUND is a Kiwanis Malaysia sponsored program using crowd funding as a solution for our fund-raising challenges during this pandemic and our target is to initially raise RM 100,000.
Other clubs in our District will be joining us to raise funds for our white flag community.
How are the funds distributed?
We will convert most of the funds into Speedmart 99 coupons for families to exchange them for goods they require. Each family will receive RM 50 to RM 200 in vouchers per family based on the size.
The balances will be used to buy physical goods and packed into donation boxes for delivery.
How do we distribute the coupons?
We will undertake to do some of it ourselves, ask our Adun’s to assist in distribution and are planning to partner with our e commerce delivery services to assist with the logistics as they can travel freely during the MCO.
We will also undertake physical distribution of food parcels to families who have difficulty travelling in these times.
The White Flag Community Fund will also be supporting the Petaling Jaya food delivery service kEATchen who has launched a food bank initiative to feed the hungry and needy amidst the nationwide lockdown.
The food bank is aimed to give basic necessities to people who had lost their jobs and did not have enough to eat amidst the two-week national lockdown.
Strict standard operating procedures are followed where frequent sanitisation is performed, and food beneficiaries are required to scan their MySejahtera and take their tempature when they queue up on Wednesday and Sunday from 4pm till 6pm to get their box of food and/or basic essentials.
Other strict protocols observed are making sure food beneficiaries observe social distancing, frequent sanitisation, and crew members wear their masks.
Anyone in need can take the food supplies as long as they are within the 10 kilometre-radius.
A portion of the funds raised by the White Flag Community Fund will go towards funding this effort.
Lalamove has agreed to be our logistics partner in this initiative. Through their “Deliver Care” Deliveries Sponsorship we will coordinate deliveries with them to collection points on our district for distribution or in the case of individuals directly to their homes.
